Michael Redmond, 8-Dan

Michael Redmond was born in 1963 in Santa Barbara, California. Michael learned Go from his father at the age of 11, and he went to Japan when he was 14 to study at the Nihon Kiin. He became a student of Mr.Oeda (9-dan) and became pro 1-dan in 1981 at the age of 18. He became 5-dan in 1985, and 8-dan in 1996. Michael won the 1984 Oteai and the 1985 Ryuen Cup Tournament. He placed 2nd in the 1988 Oteai, the 1990 Shunei Tournaments, the 1992 Shinjin-o Tournament, and the 1993 Kisei 7-dan tournament. In international tournaments, Michael has tied for 5th place in the Fujitsu Cup and the Dongyang Securities Cup Tournaments.
