Watching the games
The games are played on the Internet Go Server (IGS), which
may be reached via telnet:
telnet igs.joyjoy.net 6969
which will then give you detailed instructions for loging in
and creating an account. To get help on commands relevant
to watching the games try:
- help observe
- help channel
- help kibitz
Information on game schedules may be obtained by checking
the message of the day on IGS ("help motd"), or by
signing our guest book, which puts you
on the mailing list for events.
Some Do's and Don'ts of Spectating
Please DO:
- show courtesy and respect to the professionals.
- express your opinions and questions about the game using
kibitz or chatter in a kind manner.
- use specified channel for non-game discussion.
- be patient if things go wrong. If there is an
interruption or delay in the game, we'll let you know as
soon as we can when play will resume.
Please DO NOT:
- bother the IGS administrators with tournament questions
of any kind, including problems with clients.
- make rude or offensive comments during play. Offenders
will be warned by the TD. Repeat offenders will be kicked
off the system.
- use "tell" to reach the players before or after the game.
There are simply too many spectators. A brief flurry of
thankful congratulatory shouts immediately afterwards will be
accepted as net.applause.
- MOST IMPORTANT: Do not at any
time shout comments about the game, especially
suggestions or opinions about the position. Although the
players are not generally able to see shouts during the
match, there may be times when these can get through.
Anyone seen shouting comments or suggestions will be
kicked off the server without further warning.
Repeat offenders will be reported to IGS administration.
Thanks to everyone for your cooperation. We invite your
comments and suggestions so that we can continue to make
this tournament fun and educational for everyone. Please
understand that there is a lot to do, and we may
not be able to accommodate everyone. Your continued
patience and support is appreciated.
