MEMBER’S EDITION: Yuan Zhou 7D on a 5-kyu “red-eye” game

Monday November 15, 2010

Black suffers from “red eye,” or jealousy, in today’s game commentary, “acting as though the opponent’s territory is too big when your own is actually bigger,” says Yuan Zhou 7d. “Black is also following the opponent instead of looking at the whole board.” Zhou shows how, after a peaceful opening, the 5-kyu players trade errors both large and small. Yuan Zhou 7d is one of the strongest players in the US. He’s won many titles, and his most recent achievement was placing fifth in the Korea Prime Minister Cup, the highest finish ever for  the USA representative. Zhou is also a popular teacher, lecturer, and author.
