A longtime contributor to the American Go E-Journal, former insei Kazunari Furuyama has returned with his popular EJ column, now in sgf files and re-named “Lessons with Kaz”.  Kaz co-authored Kiseido’s “Get Strong at Joseki”, volumes 2 and 3 and is now teaching on KGS Plus.

This lesson on bulky shapes beautifully highlights how, from the same position, kyu level players see quite different opportunities from their dan level counterparts.

Black to play. Advice for kyu players: Please always think of which stones are the most important and which stones are the most short of liberties. Attack the groups with the fewest liberties.
