Ryan Li 1P describes this game’s background: “The 16th Agon Kiriyama Cup Japan-China Play-off is held between the winners of the respective versions of this title. Ke Jie is a promising young professional player whom, earlier this year, won his 9p title by claiming the 2nd Bailing Cup against Qiu Jun. Iyama Yuta is arguably the strongest player in Japan, and very famous amongst Western Go players.”

And with this game as a backdrop, Ryan beautifully explains how and when pros balance thickness with territory, so as to be able to convert thickness into territory.
