Inferior.
If White tries to play lightly with 1, White
has to play 5 to keep Black from connecting.
The natural progression through 9, is worse
for White because the marked stone has become
useless.
Correct.
White 1 is solid. After the sturdy Black 2,
the continuation through Black 6 results in
an even exchange. White has reduced Black's
moyo, while Black has built thickness.
Black variation.
Black 2 is another possibility. Through 6,
White is strong, but because Black can connect
underneath at A, the result is again even.
