Black 1 fixes his shape and aims at splitting White's stones.
White cannot extend to 2, because Black can cut at 3.
The sequence through Black 7 is one possibility.
White variation.
White has to pull back with 2, but Black's jump to 3
makes good shape. After 4 White is pressed down
against the right side.

White could try to vary with 2, but after 3, Black
is guaranteed a good result.
