Correct.
White 1 is a clever preparation move. Black 2 looks promising. Normally White 3 fails to connect, but here White's 1st stone make the difference. White 5 and 7 just barely make the connection along the top edge.

Black variation.
Black 2 here also fails. After 7, White still connects.


Black variation.
Black doesn't have time to extend toward the edge with 2. White 3 turns the tables. Now Black is the one whose group is cut off. Black will run out of freedoms before White does.


Failure.
White 1 is bad timing. Now Black's standard clamp tesuji works with moves 2 and 4. After Black 6, White has failed to connect.
