Correct.
Black 1 is correct.
The pincer here accomplishes 3 goals with 1 move:
develops the 2 stones in the lower right,
pincers the White stone,
and indirectly threatens the 2 White stones on the lower right side.
White might try to play at 2, but Black only needs to lean on White at 3.
With weak groups on the bottom and right sides, White will be in for a hard fight.
Inappropriate.
Simply defending with Black 1 is inappropriate.
A likely continuation starting with White 2 might follow.
After White 4, Black has taken the pressure off White,
who now only has to worry about his right side group.
Slack.
Attaching to White's weak stone with Black 1 merely helps White settle himself.
If Black plays conservatively, White will easily settle himself, so Black can
try to crosscut at 3.
From Black 4 onward would be a typical sequence.
At the end of the sequence, Black has made strong outside influence, but here,
White's upper left group neutralizes that influence. Black has gained nothing.
Moreover, now with White's strong bottom group, Black's lower right group is no longer
strong enough to effectively attack the 2 White stones on the right side.
