WEEK 8 - more about connecting

MATERIALS YOU'LL NEED: 9x9 demo board, class Go sets
   1. Review direct and indirect connections; Iron pillar, diagonal. Review the tiger's mouth. Name the ways you can connect these stones. Also demonstrate the peep.
   2. Tiger's mouth: Where can black play to connect? (error: white stone #14 should not be on the board, it's actually the answer if black plays there)
   3. Explain the Knight's move connection. (The top is the edge of the board) There are two knght's moves black can use to connect here.
   4. Explain the bamboo joint. How can black connect her stones? Can do it directly, but there's a better way, better for moving out into the center.
   5. How can black connect all the black stones? (bamboo joint is the only way that works here)
   6. Explain crossing under ( there should be one more line at the top that is the edge of the board)
   7. Crossing under - how can black connect all of her stones? (answer one point jump in the middle on line two, walk them through white pushing and black connecting twice at the edge)
Problems: p 112. Vol one of Go problems for beginners is good here.

VOCABULARY WORDS:

BAMBOO JOINT - two iron pillars one point apart
