THE AGA STARTER CD

Give someone you know the gift of go!

The ultimate toolkit for beginners!

The AGA developed this special CD with beginners in mind. It contains everything a novice needs to get started, including

-- Video, interactive tutorials and dozens of printable documents

-- Free software that plays 9x9 go

-- 9x9 and 19x19 games specially commented for beginners by master teacher Yi-lun Yang 7P

-- Dozens of game records from famous players to review and study

To make the AGA Starter CD, we selected and organized the best materials from the website, so if you're reading this page, you can find everything elsewhere on this site. But perhaps you know someone who is interested, or might be interested, in go, but they don't use the Internet. If you're a parent who prefers not to permit your child online access; if you know someone in a hospital, prison or other institution where Internet access is not available; or if your friend just plain doesn't like going online, or has a slow connection, the Starter CD is their offline omnibus of essential tools.

How Can I Get One?

Free copies of the Starter CD are available to AGA Chapters, so if you belong to a Chapter, ask them to get you a copy. The Starter CD is included in The American Go Foundation's Classroom Starter Set, which it distributes to classroom teachers and after-school programs; the AGF also sells additional copies to approved teaching programs at the AGF Teacher Store.

You can also make your own CD. Click here to download all the files, all 388 MB, as a zipfie. (Make sure you have enough space to hold it all!). Unzip the files and directories burn them to a CD. We would appreciate it if you would also label copies you distribute. Click here to download the artwork; just print it to a CD label and stick it on the CD. Click here to browse the entire CD; please send comments and suggestions for the next version to roylaird@gmail.com.
