Playing Opportunities for ChildrenAGA Summer Go CampEvery Summer the AGA organizes a national children's go camp, a mixtture of traditional camp activites such as arts and crafts; canoeing; and go instruction by professionals and top amateurs. Redmond CupThe Redmond Cup is a national tournament for North American children sponored by Michael Redmond 8-Dan and his family, the American Go Association, the Ing Wei-Ch'i Educational Foundation and IGS. Registration is due each year by December 1 to None Redmond at chinski@inreach.com. The tournament is played on IGS during the winter and spring. In the Cup there are two divisions; the junior one for those aged less than 12 years and the senior league for Dan players aged 12 to 17 before August 1st of the year of the tournament. All players must be residents of the U.S., Canada or Mexico. All games are played on the Internet courtesy of IGS except for the finals which will be played at the American Go Congress. Travel expenses to the Congress are paid for the finalists and an escort for those under the age of 16. The four finalists also have their Congress room, board and registration fees paid by the Redmond Cup. Redmond Handicap TournamentThe Redmond Handicap Tournament is a national tournament for North American children sponored by Michael Redmond 8-Dan and his family, the American Go Association, the Ing Wei-Ch'i Educational Foundation and IGS. The handicap tournament is for kyu level players. Registration is due each year by December 1 to None Redmond at chinski@jps.net. The tournament is played on IGS during the winter and spring. There will be two leagues in the Redmond Handicap Tournament also depending on the rankings of the registrants. All players must be aged less than 16 on August 1st of the year of the tournament, resident in the U.S., Canada or Mexico and rank in the kyus. The entire tournament is played on the Internet courtesy of IGS and there will be small prizes awarded to the winners and the runner up in each league. US Go CongressThe US Go Congress is held every summer. Children are encouraged to attend. In addition to participating in regular Congress events such as: the US Open, the US Pair Go Championships, and the lightning go tournament; alot of special events are organized especially for children such as teaching sessions, children's tournaments, a pizza party. To encourage children's participation, children's participation at the Congress is subsidized with the Congress entrance fees paid. Local ClubsThere are local clubs located in many areas of the US. Children are very welcome to attend. The AGA maintains a list of AGA chapters and other go clubs in the US. Local TournamentsA list of tournaments in the US is maintained by the AGA.
