International Amateur Pair Go Championship
Pair Go, in which male-female teams compete for prizes and the right to play for their country in the yearly International Pair Go Championship, has grown rapidly in popularity since its inception in the late 1980's. The International Pair Go Association believes that bringing more women into the game will make it more popular with all players. They also aim to introduce a social element to a game that can be a solitary pursuit. Efforts of organizers in Europe have been rewarded with a growing interest in Pair Go, especially in Great Britain.
In the US, more than eighty players participate in the Pair Go Championship at the US Go Congress every year, with the winner begin selected to represent the United States at the International Amateur Pair Go Championship, held each November in Japan. With the support of the the International Pair Go Association, the AGA is expanding the presence of Pair Go in the US.
Selection Process
The US pair go team for the International Amateur Pair Go Championship (IAPGC) is selected at the US Pair Go Champinship, held each year at the US Go Congress. In order for a team to be eligible to compete in the selection tournament, both team members must satisfy the AGA's policy on the selection of international representatives and neither player can have been the US representative to the previous year's IAPGC event.
