1992 US Open
Tournament Director: Bill Camp
Tournament Report
From the American Go Journal: The first-ever week-long US Open was run by TD Bill Camp as a six-round Swiss-McMahon, with one round per day played each morning. Timed at ninety minutes per player, most people were finished by lunchtime and ready to enjoy a full schedule of pro events and lectures in the afternoon. In fact, many people were able to attend the daily "debating" at 11:00, where pros were available to analyze the morning's games.
The winner of the US Open was Woo Jin Kim, a sturdy-looking young California resident who will represent the US in the 1993 World Amateur Go Championship, and placed second in the Ing Cup. Yong Wei Peng was selected as the US rep to the World Women's Amateur Go Championship, held later this year.
