Boston Spring Open 2015

The Boston Spring Open 2015 is the first in a series of quarterly tournaments. Unlike most Go tournaments in the US which use a handicap system, games in the upper divisions of the Boston Open will be even. We expect one or two divisions for dan level, one division for 1-5 kyu, and one handicap division for 6-15 kyu. Cash prizes will be awarded in all divisions, with a top prize of $150.

Logistics:

Pregistration required! There is a limit for this tournament of 44 players.

Preregistration closes on March 27 at 9am (24 hours before tournament start).

Please use Meetup to pay online: RSVP to this event and follow directions.

Fee: $20 (All proceeds will go towards prize money)

Location: Microsoft NERD Center, Cambridge, MA

Building entry: all participants are required to sign a waiver and present government ID at the front desk. For minors, a guardian with ID is required to accompany them.


Time:

Check-in time: 8:15 am - 8:45am

Tournament start: 9am

Lunch will be a 1.5 hr break.


Format:

• All Games are AGA rated

• 4 rounds, Swiss McMahon pairing

• Time Settings: 30 minutes main time, 5 x 40s overtime

• All games will be even, except for the 6-15 kyu division, which will be handicapped according to rank.

Salt City Go Tournament

The 8th Annual Salt City Go Tournament will have four paired rounds with three handicap divisions. Cash prizes will be presented to the top three finishers in the A division, and all other participants will receive go-related prizes, including new books from Slate and Shell. Pro Workshop with Jennie Shen

The Portland Go Club is proud to announce that Jennie Shen will return to give a weekend workshop at Lewis and Clark College on Saturday and Sunday, April 18th and 19th, 2015. Jennie's workshops have always been well-received and well-attended, as she combines a playful sense of humor with a serious study of Go...making for a relaxing, entertaining, and educational weekend.

Ms. Shen was the National Youth Champion of China in 1985, at the age of 14, and came to live in the United States in 2007.
