North Carolina State Championship


The North Carolina State Go Champion will be determined in a day long tournament on September 22, 2018, at Umstead State Park in north Raleigh. Competitors from across the state will vie for the title, with prizes and trophies awarded in multiple divisions. The State Go Champion wins a cash prize along with 2 trophies. One of the trophies will be permanently awarded; the other is a traveling trophy awarded to successive state champions.

All AGA members are eligible to play. However, to be awarded the title of “North Carolina State Champion” you must be an amateur go player who resides in North Carolina at least 50% of the year. Students are eligible.

The location of the Tournament is Umstead State Park. Shelter #2 is at the Reedy Creek entrance to the park. To get to the Reedy Creek entrance coming from Durham, take I-40 to exit 287 (Cary/Harrison Ave) and turn left onto N. Harrison Ave, crossing the I-40 overpass. The Reedy Creek entrance is less than 1/4 mile. To get to the Reedy Creek entrance coming from Raleigh, take I-40 to exit 287 (Cary/Harrison Ave) and turn right onto N. Harrison Ave. The Reedy Creek entrance is less than 1/8 mile. After you enter the parking area, continue straight into the area to the far right corner (see image at left). The shelter is located about 20 yards south of the parking lot. We will have signs posted to help you locate the site. PREREGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for first round pairing and an early start. To participate in the first round you must register before 8:00 PM Friday, September 21st.

The location is on the Cary side of Umstead Park and is accessible via I-40 to Harrison Avenue. Do not use the Umstead entrance on US Hwy 70. There is no connection to Reedy Creek entrance from US Hwy 70.

Jeff Kuang will be serving as the Tournament Director. The tournament will consist of 4 rounds of play. Time settings will be 45 minutes main time, with 5 byo-yomi periods of 30 seconds each. This is an AGA rated tournament. You must be an AGA member to play. Please be sure you have a membership or renew via the web at before the tournament begins.

South Bay Go Tournament

Join us for a full-day go tournament on Saturday Sep 29, 2018! We'll be playing in the Palo Alto Public Library, Downtown branch at 270 Forest Ave, Palo Alto CA.

This tournament will be AGA-rated, and will consist of four rounds of play and a break for lunch. Please RSVP at the eventbrite (I've deliberately made this meetup so that folks can't RSVP. This is an announcement for the tournament!)

No need to bring any equipment, all boards/stones will be provided thanks to the Bay Area Go Players Association.

San Diego Go Club Back to School Tournament

The San Diego Go Club's Fall 2018 Soiree will be a 3-round AGA-rated tournament.

Players must register by 11:59 pm Friday, 8/28 to play in the first round.
On-site registration for rounds 2-3 is allowed.
No problem playing less than three rounds. But please notify the TD.

This is a free tournament, although AGA membership is required.
Rounds at 10 a.m., 1 & 3 p.m. with free pizza for everyone at 5 p.m.
There will be an Open section and handicapped sections.

The competition will be at the spacious San Diego Chess Club in Balboa Park.
Time constraints will be 45 min basic time + 5 30-second Byo-yomi.

UCSD students can get a free ride to and from the tournament site.

Come celebrate our 23nd Anniversary with a Tournament! This is a great way to play some intense Go face-to-face, with 3 rounds and Japanese rules.

Massachusetts Go Association Fall Tournament

This is a one day 4 round Handicap tournament. On-street parking is free on Sundays. The venue is about a 10 minute walk from the Davis Square T Stop, and a short walk from the Massachusetts Avenue busses. Registration begins at 9:45, play at 10:30 a.m. There are cash prizes. The tournament fee is $20, reduced to $15 for pre-registrants. Pre-registration is a simple matter of emailing the TD your intention to play, and the strength at which you are entering. Your AGA number, if you have one, would be helpful. Otherwise the TD has t look you up in the AGA membersihp rolls by name. AGA membership is available at the registration desk for those who need to join or whose membership has expired.

The Open section will result in the naming of a 2018 Texas State Champion. In parallel, we will also have a handicap section for others wishing to compete, but not for the state title.

Vermont Go Championship

The Vermont Go Championship will be a single elimination three-round AGA rated no handicap tournament consisting of the top eight players in Vermont. There will be a Vermont Fall Tournament (with handicaps) held simultaneously for all other players so that everyone gets to play three rounds. Seattle Go Center Monthly Ratings Tournament

This is a great way to play some intense face-to-face Go! Three rounds, Japanese rules. You do not have play all 3 rounds (just inform the Tournament Director of your plans).

The tournament is free of charge, though the Go Center membership policies apply: younger than 18 free, first 10 visits free; otherwise, $5 for one-day membership (see for other options). And you need to be a current AGA member -- to join or renew. You can join / renew in person at the Go Center, but please come early to do that.

Registration is from 10:00 - 10:45 sharp, and the first round starts at 11:00. If you come before 12:30 and register, you will probably be able to play in the second round, which starts by 1:30 (but may start sooner).
