Go Seminar- 7 Dan Kellin Pelrine at the Columbine Library

The Littleton Go Club will be hosting a seminar at the Columbine Library featuring Kellin Pelrine 7 Dan from 2 to 4:30 on September 10th. We'll also be ordering pizza for a break in the middle. If you're planning on coming please shoot me an email at littletongoclub@gmail.com, subject: Go Seminar with the number of people coming. It's so I can get a good idea on how many pizza's, not mandatory but would be appreciated.

Kellin prepared this description of the lesson as well, if you're wondering what he'll be featuring.

"The first half of the seminar will discuss attachments, particularly isolated ones used in the opening and early middle game to create forcing moves and toeholds in new areas rather than ones that defend or expand from existing stones. For example, the attachment on the front of the 3-4 small knight's enclosure in the opening. This kind of attachment seems to be occurring more frequently lately, especially in professional and other high level games (perhaps inspired by AlphaGo).

The first part of the second half will be about ideas on how to improve, illustrated in the context of a game review. It will focus more on the process and how to work on improving, such as identifying and working to improve weak areas, rather than specifics like "to improve, read x book" or "do x quantity of problems per day."

Finally, we will conclude with a Q&A. Bring any question you like that can be asked in a short amount of time. No complete game reviews please, but questions about a specific position are welcome, as well as more general questions.

If you have any questions about the content of the seminar, feel free to email me at kellinpelrine@gmail.com . I look forward to seeing you there!"

Vintage Go, 2016

Our annual Vintage Go Event is not a tournament, but a day of playing Go and wine tasting in Livermore, CA, wine country. The time is from 10:00 am to around 5:00 pm. There will be a $5.00 fee per adult to cover the door prizes.

The location is Charles R Vineyards. Take the Greenville exit off of Interstate 580, go south on Greenville, past Poppy Ridge (a golf course on your left), to the end of the road. Greenville Road changes into Crane Ridge Rd. It then becomes a dirt road -- keep going and there it is, on the right.

This is an outdoor activity. While the area is shaded, we recommend that anyone planning to attend bring sun screen, a hat, drinking water, and a picnic lunch. Some snacks will be provided. There are not a lot of other activities right at the winery; but non-go-playing friends and children are welcome. It's a pretty area, out in the country, to take a walk in.
