Complimentary trial AGA membership for non-members
Junior and Senior Divisions -- IF YOU'RE IN SCHOOL, YOU CAN PLAY!
The Ing Foundation has generously donated $10,000 for this event, making it possible to offer substantial prizes in every bracket, and for most of the teams who compete.
The competition will begin in February and all games will be played online at the KGS Go server, using Ing rules.
Teams can be formed by any North American (US or Canadian) school with at least four go players, and also by home-schooled kids who want to play together.
Kindergarten through high school age studentsare all eligible to compete.
Non-AGA members will receive a free six month trial membership. See "Registration" to learn how to claim your free trial membership.
If you don't have a Go club at your school, it is easy to start one! The American Go Foundation (AGF) provides free equipment to any school that wants to start a club. Teams must have an adult sponsor at the school in order to apply.
(*Recipients will mail in certificates to vendors of their choice with their orders. Shipping not included. NOTE: Kiseido and Yutopian will only redeem for books, not equipment.)
Eligibility Rules
1. All players must be under the age of 20 years as of the
beginning of the first round of the first preliminary.
2. All players must be current AGA members at the start of the event and their memberships must still be in effect at the end of the tournament.
3. " Schools" are full time academic institutions
having one name, under one administrator and with one campus. Home schooled students can form teams with fellow home schoolers under the name of their school district.
4. School teams consist only of players who attend
academic classes at that school.
5. This is a team event. A team may have as few as the minimum
necessary to win a majority of boards in one round, and may have as
many as two alternates. In the 2008 season, a team round is
defined to have four boards, so the minimum number of players a team
may have is three, and the maximum is six.

Tournament Procedures
1. Pairing will be posted on the website by board order. Determine your
board number and colors, and proceed to your matches. First boards on
both teams will nigiri for color, and then following boards will
alternate colors based on the first board¹s role.
2. The strat of a round is not the start of a game, but the start of the actual round.
3. All games must be played in the Sabaki Go Club room.
4. If you
wish to reschedule your match, withdraw, or skip a particular round,
you must notify the tournament staff or officials at least two hours
before the start of the round. You may be penalized if you forfeit
without notice.
5. Be sure your results
are posted properly. Standings will be posted during the next round.
It is possible that incorrect results reported more than one round
late will not be corrected.
6. NATIONAL EVENT There will be four rounds of preliminaries,
in which schools will be seeded according to combined rankings. They
will be paired high-high. In subsequent rounds, teams with similar
team win-loss and individual win-loss records will be paired against
each other. The top teams from the preliminaries will advance to the
playoffs. At the tournament staff¹s discretion, separate brackets for
middle and elementary school teams will be made to crown national
champions according to grade level as well.
Tournament Rules
1. This tournament is played under Ing's laws of SST as implemented on KGS as "New Zealand" rules.
2. Time control is 45 minutes main time (MT) with
25 moves in 10 minutes Canadian byo-yomi.
3. Black pays White komi of 8 points.
4. All games are played on a 19 x 19 board.
5. Tournament directors will be available to assist you in the
event of any problems or questions.
6. If a player is late for the start of the match, the official will note the lateness of the player in question and deduct
that amount of time from the start of his or her game clock.
7. If a player does not arrive within thirty minutes of the
actual start of the round, he or she forfeits the game unless extreme
circumstances are submitted to the Hearings Committee within three
days of the game.
8. Be careful! At F2F tournaments, the rule is, "A stone laid is a stone played"; here, "A move clicked is a move that sticks." Players are not permitted to request an Undo, nor are they permitted to grant one to their opponent under any circumstances.
9. To avoid any appearance of impropriety, players may not communicate with anyone in any way, including electronically, during play except in the presence
of tournament officials. Speaking to anyone else about any of the games in
progress may result in a penalty or disqualification.
10. When making a claim, or in the event of any dispute, either
player must approach the TD with the amount of time remaining on both
clocks and stop the clocks. Only the players involved may make a
claim regard matters that happen at your board. If you think a TD has
made an error, you should ask to appeal to the Executive TD, and then
to the Hearings Committee. A frivolous claim may be penalized by
adding time to your opponent¹s clock or by suffering a point penalty.
11. Teams
will be paired, when possible, to other teams of a close rank.
12. Ties for individual and team awards will be broken as listed in
rules and regulations for tournaments. |
