About this event
The 6th Annual U16 Girls & U16 Boys CA State Go Championship is hosted by the San Diego Go Club! This event is intended for Youth Participants 16 years or under to compete, or for those interested in the 13x13 Free Beginner's Event. (We have a separate event for the End of Summer Tournament on Sunday which is open to all.) The competition will be played at the EF Language School in Point Loma on Saturday, September 5th-6th, 2026. Free Parking is available for those attending the event!
This will be a 6-Round Open & 3-Round Handicap youth tournament. Complimentary breakfast and Lunch will be provided for all registered players! Side games will also be available in between rounds for players & their families to enjoy. Players must register by 11:30 pm, Thursday, September 3rd, 2026 to play in the first round in either Section.
The first 20 attendees to register will receive a blue ticket for priority line up for lunch on the day of the event! Lunch will be catered by Rubio's Coastal Grill , and attendees will get to Choose their Burrito (Chicken, Steak, Shrimp) along with salsas, guacamole, queso, and more! There will be an opportunity for seconds afterwards as well.
***U16 Open Section (Saturday & Sunday) Eligibility & Requirements***
The U16 Open Section is Limited to 10 seats this year. Should the Open Section fill up, the TD will prioritize players based on rank. To participate in the Open Section you must be 1 Dan or higher.
***U16 Handicap Section (Saturday Only) Eligibility & Requirements***
The U16 Handicap Section is intended for players 30 Kyu - 1 Kyu and will be played on the 19x19 Board. There will be a SDK and DDK bands where players can compete for the top 3 in each band.
Additionally, Under 16 players who wish to participate in the End of Summer Tournament the next day, can do so with a special discounted $5 entry fee.
