From rising stars to seasoned champions, the World Amateur Go Championship showcases the
incredible diversity and dedication of players around the world. Here are three more competitors to watch as the tournament kicks off this weekend in British Columbia.

Rinat (top right) discovered Go in 2016 while studying in Russia and quickly became captivated by the game’s depth and discipline. In 2023, his passion for Go took a new turn—he opened a Go school in Kazakhstan, where he now focuses on promoting and growing the game in his home country.
Miloš Bojanić 4D (Serbia)
Miloš (left) began playing Go at 14 and reached 1 dan just two years later. A two-time European World Youth Go Championship qualifier in the early ’90s, he’s since captured the Serbian Championship and Cup nine times and participated in five previous WAGCs. He has also served as captain of the Serbian national team and is a former president of the Serbian Go Federation.
Lilly Hu 1k (Austria)
A two-time Austrian Female Champion (2021, 2024), Lilly Hu (bottom right) has emerged as one of Europe’s top young players. She earned “Best Girl” honors in the European U12 category in both 2022 and 2024 and continues to grow as a strong representative of Austria’s next generation of Go talent.
