The 2025 Canadian Open kicked off with two rounds of play Saturday, drawing a field of 92
participants across nine divisions. Early results indicate a highly competitive event, with top seeds showing strong form and several closely contested matches throughout the ranks.
Division A Highlights:
- Dohyup Kim 8d, Leo Tan 6d, Pei-Chen Hsiung 7d, and WeiBin Jin 7d are off to perfect starts, each recording 2-0 records.
- Eight players, including Zihao Liu 6d, Zhiqi Yu 6d, and Yongfei Ge 7d, finished Day 1 at 1-1.
- YU KANETSUKI 7d, James Sedgwick 5d, and Cheuk To Tsui 5d are among those still looking for their first win.
Other Divisions:
- Division B: Jean-Sébastien Lechasseur 4d leads with 2 wins.
- Division C: William Zhen 1d stands out at 2-0.
- Division D: Cyril Bouchet 1k, Yiyang Li 1k, and Kevin Park 1k remain unbeaten at 2-0.
- Division E: Three players are undefeated: Jason Tang 4k, Benoit Potvin 5k, and Lilly Sheng 6k, all at 2-0.
- Division F: Cheng Xu 8k and Amy Qi 7k both posted 2-0 starts.
- Division G: Zhihao Dong 10k, Yutian Wang 10k, and Greg Kirczenow 10k each have 2 wins.
- Division H: Howard Jeddore 15k, Colin North 18k, and Robert Desai 15k are perfect after two rounds.
- Division I: Jasper Liu 20k and Ziyue Luo 23k lead the group at 2-0.
