Chris Garlock | Published on 6/29/2025
After four intense rounds at the 48th Canadian Open Go Championship in Halifax, Leo Tan 6d has surged into the lead with a perfect 4-0 record and 108 SOS. Tan has outpaced a strong top group that includes several 7- and 8-dan players and will look to secure the title in the final two rounds on Monday. Tune in starting at 8:30a ET on YouTube or Twitch for livestream coverage by the E-Journal, with commentary by Bill Lin 1P beginning at 1p ET.

Dohyup Kim 8d, the highest-ranked player in the field, sits in second place at 3-1, narrowly trailing on SOS despite a higher cumulative score (423) than Tan. Three players—Brady Zhang 7d, Yongfei Ge 7d, and Pei-Chen Hsiung 7d—also share 3-1 records, all within striking distance of the championship podium.

Further down the A Division, Zihang Fu 5d, WeiBin Jin 7d, and Ivan Lo 6d are among a cluster of players with 2-2 records who could still move up with strong finishes.

In the B Division, Jean-Sébastien Lechasseur 4d is the standout performer so far, with a perfect 4-0 record and a solid lead over the rest of the field. William Zhen 1d has also posted a flawless 4-0 in the C Division.

The D Division sees Kevin Park 1k unbeaten at 4-0, while in the E Division four players—Siyuan Wei 4k, Jason Tang 4k, Lilly Sheng 6k, and Soo Lee 5k—are tied at 3-1.

Among the lower kyu sections, Cheng Xu 8k leads F Division at 4-0, and Zhihao Dong 10k has gone undefeated in G Division. Robert Desai 15k tops H Division with 4 wins, and Jasper Liu 20k has a perfect record in I Division.

Game commentaries by Michael Chen 1P (Rounds 1 & 2) and Paige Lemaster 6D (Rounds 3 & 4) are available – with chapter links – on our YouTube channel.

The final two rounds on Monday will determine this year’s Canadian Open champions across all sections.
