US Go Congress 2025 Kicks Off with Community, Competition, and a NYC Sweep

Chris Garlock | Published on 7/13/2025

The 2025 U.S. Go Congress officially kicked off Saturday just north of Austin, Texas, as hundreds of Go players from across the country and around the world gathered at Southwestern University in Georgetown. The campus buzzed with excitement as longtime friends reunited and newcomers found community through their shared love of the ancient game.

Saturday afternoon saw the first major competitive event of the week: the Pandanet/AGA City League finals, where New York City swept Vancouver (a full report is coming soon). Click here for Yilun Yang’s commentary on all three games.

A lively—but brief—opening ceremony formally launched the 41st Congress, followed by the first round of the 9x9 tournament.

The action continues Sunday at 9 a.m. with the opening rounds of the U.S. Open and the North American Masters Tournament. Watch live on Twitch or YouTube, or follow the games on OGS under the ejournal account.
