Eight American Go Association (AGA) clubs across Texas have joined forces to create a new Discord server, the Texas Go Association, aimed at connecting players statewide. The server encourages gameplay and engagement among Texas Go enthusiasts, while helping chapter leaders coordinate tournaments, share equipment, develop marketing strategies, and support local growth. There’s even early discussion about establishing a formal process for naming a state champion.
The new server helps smaller cities such as College Station, Denton, and Temple — each with fewer than 250,000 residents — engage with players and leaders from major metros like Houston, Dallas, and Austin, where populations exceed one million.
Dedicated channels and other features facilitate online play and statewide tournaments. Texas chapter leaders are considering an online event that rewards participation and game volume rather than simple win-loss records — an innovative approach inspired by Taiwan’s model for promoting Go within its own community.
