NEW RELEASE: Weird and Wonderful, Vol. 2 Explores AI’s Impact on Unusual Joseki

Dutch go author and artist Kim Ouweleen has released Weird and Wonderful, Volume 2: Unusual Opening Patterns and Techniques through the Eyes of AI, the follow-up to his first volume on the subject.
The new book examines how artificial intelligence has reshaped our understanding of corner patterns and whole-board strategy — overturning long-trusted joseki while validating surprising new ideas.
“Many established corner patterns have recently been refuted,” writes Ouweleen, “and some lesser-known ideas have risen to the surface and become the new standard.”
Among the unusual techniques explored are “feeding the tiger on the first line,” the monkey

jump’s “big brother,” a three-move breakthrough that cracks thick walls, a modern revival of the once-forbidden hane, and a fresh AI look at Korea’s traditional sunjang baduk — all tested against top AI programs to confirm what still works and what no longer does.
Designed for players curious about AI-driven opening theory — and eager to surprise their opponents — Weird and Wonderful 2 continues the series’ mission to illuminate the strangest and most innovative edges of modern Go.
