The Canadian Go Association will host the 48th annual Canadian Go Championships in Toronto from June 27–30, one of the premier events on the North American Go calendar.
The Canadian Open features a six-round main tournament, with two games per day over the first three days. Players of all levels are welcome, with top competitors vying for a first prize of at least 1000 CAD, along with opportunities for Canadian citizens to represent the country in international competition. Organizers also announced that Yoonyoung Kim 8P, a distinguished Korean professional currently based in Montreal, will be a special guest at this year’s event. Kim will lead a series of exclusive activities, including professional game reviews and exhibition games, offering participants a rare opportunity to engage directly with a top-level pro.
Additional activities include Pair Go, a closing banquet, and other side events to complement the main tournament.
Organizers expect a strong turnout, hoping to exceed the 137 players who attended a recent Vancouver edition. Players are encouraged to register by April 15 to secure the best rates; later registration remains available but may include additional fees, and some accommodations—such as residence rooms—may sell out.
