Siyuan Fang Wins 4th New York State Go Championship; Jeremy Chiu and Gunyeol Yang Earn State Titles

The 4th New York State Go Championship was held on April 11–12, 2026, at the New York Institute of Go in Manhattan, bringing together players of all ages and levels for a weekend of strong competition, learning, and community.

Siyuan Fang 7d finished as the overall winner of the tournament. Jeremy Chiu 7d was crowned 2026 New York State Champion, and Gunyeol Yang 5d earned the title of 2026 New York State Youth Champion.

The event featured both adult and youth divisions, highlighting the depth of competition in the region as well as the continued growth of youth Go in New York.

Open Division (Adult): 1st: Siyuan Fang (7d); 2nd: Michael Chen (2p); 3rd: Jeremy Chiu (7d)
Dan Division (Adult): 1st: Benjamin Gunby-Mann (2d)
Kyu A Division (Adult): 1st: Joshua Hull (2k)
Kyu B Division (Adult): 1st: Peter Lin (10k)
Champion Division (Youth): 1st: Kevin Yang (6d)
Expert Division (Youth): 1st: Dawei Xu (2k)
Advanced Division (Youth): 1st: Jeremy Wong (7k)
Intermediate Division (Youth): 1st: Kai Zhao (15k)
Novice Division (Youth): 1st: Jason Leo (17k)


“Beyond the final standings, the tournament reflected the energy and strength of the New York Go community,” reports NYIG’s Stephanie Yin. “Players, families, and organizers came together for a weekend that combined serious competition with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.”
