World No. 1 Shin Jinseo 9p of Korea and World No. 2 Ding Hao 9p of China will meet July 18 in the inaugural PlayGo Clash of the Titans, a five-game blitz match that introduces a new AI-assisted competition format.
Rather than beginning from an empty board, each game will start from a different AI-generated position at move 50 that PlayGo says is judged to be perfectly balanced. The format eliminates opening preparation and established joseki, requiring both players to navigate unfamiliar positions from their first move.
Each blitz game is expected to last 20 to 30 minutes. Organizers say the shorter time controls and midgame starting positions are intended to create a faster-paced viewing experience for both experienced Go players and newcomers.
The match begins at 10:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, July 17, and will be streamed live on the PlayGo platform with AI analysis and an interactive prediction game for viewers. Korean broadcasts will also be available on K-Baduk and Lee Hyunwook's YouTube channel.
Shin has held the world's No. 1 ranking for seven consecutive years and has won nine major international titles. Ding Hao is currently ranked No. 2 in the world and No. 1 in China, with three 
major international championships to his credit.
The event follows PlayGo's May 31 "Battle of the Sexes" exhibition, which featured Shin Jinseo, Kim Eunji, Choi Jeong, and Kim Jiseok and drew more than 100,000 viewers across streaming platforms.
PlayGo says the AI-opening format is part of its effort to develop Go as a more accessible spectator sport by creating shorter, more dynamic professional competitions.
