Pete Schumer wins the 2026 Vermont Summer Go Tournament

Summertime, and the livin' was easy on the Lake Champlain waterfront in Burlington, Vermont, on Saturday, July 18. Ten players—undeterred by the heat, rain, and poor air quality from distant wildfires—gathered at the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center for the 2026 Vermont Summer Go Tournament.

Several closely contested and exciting games highlighted the day, but it was Vermont Go Club founder Pete Schumer (3k) who emerged victorious with a perfect 3-0 record. Weiting Dai (3d) took second place with a 2-1 record in his first AGA tournament, while Eric Osman (1k) claimed third, also finishing 2-1.

Ethan Brueckner (5k) and Caleb Kendrick (10k) also posted 2-1 records, narrowly missing the top three on SOS and SOSOS tiebreakers. The tournament marked Kendrick's first-ever Go tournament.

Every player went home with a prize, thanks to generous support from BOARD N'STONES, Yunguseng Dojang, Shelburne Farms, Go Magic, The Skinny Pancake, Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, and Baduk Club.

The Six Seasons of Vermont Go continues on October 24 with the 2026 Vermont State Championship and Fall Tournament in Middlebury. Registration will open soon at vermontgo.org.
