2019 U20 Eastern Youth Open

What is the U20 Eastern Youth Open?

The U20 Eastern Youth Open is a youth tournament held by New York Go Association for all young players who are under 20 years old with over $1,500 prize pool.

After Google AlphaGo appeared in 2016, Go became more and more popular in Western countries. More people started to understand Go and like this intellectual mind-sport. After 3-year promoting Go by the New York Go Association, Go already is popular in many elementary schools, and other eastern US cities. It is the time to provide an opportunity for young players to compete in a high standard face-to-face tournament. This is also the original intention for New York Go Association to hold this competition. The New York Go Association intends to host this competition annually and makes this event the largest youth Go tournament in the East.

Please register at The deadline for registration is Wednesday, August 28, 2019. AGA membership is required. Click here to become a member.

All of the participants must be under 20 years old by the date of the tournament. The rank requirement to enter is 10 kyu or higher. All players must be a current AGA or CGA member. Rule Set: AGA, Swiss-style, 19 x 19 board

Registration: 10:00 - 10:45 sharp. You can call 206-545-1424 if you will run late.
If you come before 12:30, you can probably play in the 2nd round.

Vintage Go 2019

Date/Time: September 7, 2019 from 10:00AM -- 5:00PM.
Entry fee: $5.00 fee per adult to cover the door prizes.

This is an outdoor activity. While the area is shaded, we recommend bringing sun screen, a hat, drinking water, and a picnic lunch. Some snacks will be provided. There are not a lot of other activities right at the winery; but non-go-playing friends and children are welcome to hang out. It's a pretty area, out in the country, to take a walk in. Children must be supervised.

Those planning to attend, please RSVP---but it is not necessary.

2019 Oregon State Go Championship

This is the first annual state championship tournament. Format is a five-round Swiss-McMahon tournament (everyone plays all five rounds). It will be held on September 21 and 22, 2019, in the beautiful Portland Japanese Garden. This is an AGA-rated tournament, so AGA membership is required. Because winners will receive AGA-sanctioned state titles, "one event" membership will not be honored. You do not have to be an Oregon resident to play in this tournament.

In the open section, the highest finisher who is also an Oregon resident will be awarded the Championship trophy. Trophies and state-wide "braggin' rights" will also be given for top finishers in the handicap sections. Cash and merchandise prizes will go to the top places in each section as well, with a special purse of $500.00 for the open section. Entry fees will be $25.00 per adult and $15.00 for those under the age of 18 on September 22. Entry to the Japanese Garden will be waived for all participants.

IMPORTANT! Due to space restrictions, only a limited number of players will be able to participate. See next paragraph for instructions to apply for participation. All players must apply and register in advance so we can arrange for entry to the Garden. Applicants will be placed on a list by order of receipt of application with priority for open section players. There is no cost to apply for participation. Fees will be settled in August. After AGA membership expiration dates have been confirmed and the entry fees have been received, a list of participants will be published. After you apply, it is important to watch for notices and respond within the time period allowed to complete your application, or you will be dropped from the list to make space for another player. There will not be time or mechanism afforded for "entry at the door."

To start your application, send an email to, Subject: OSC. In the body of the email give the following information: Full name, AGA ID#, email that you regularly check (and put me on your allowed list if your email uses a filter), state of residence, and (for strong players) whether you want to enter the open section. Please do not send fees until asked to do so.
