Yilun Yang Lecture

Yilun Yang (Chinese 7-dan pro) will be giving the second of four free lectures for the San Diego Go Club on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the San Diego Chess Club in Balboa Park from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Mr Yang is a noted speaker at the US Go Congress and at the Cotsen Tournament for years. He is the author of several go books.

Come early as his last lecture was standing-room only.

You’re invited to a two-day workshop in Denver, CO on November 2nd and 3rd given by Yoonyoung Kim, 8 dan pro from Korea. In 2010, Ms. Kim won the prestigious Kiseong (Kisei) title in Korea, and also beat the legendary player, Rui Naiwei, 9p, that same year. She now lives in Montreal, Canada and competes in top-level tournaments online while producing YouTube Go videos in her spare time.

Monthly Tournament - November

This is a great way to play some intense Go face to face! Three rounds, 45 minutes + byo-yomi, Japanese rules.

Register on-site, 10:00-10:45 AM. You can call 206-545-1424 if you will run late. If you call in, your clock starts 10 min. into the 1st round; and if you're not present after 30 min., you forfeit.

First round starts at 11:00 AM. Second round starts by 1:30 PM, but may start sooner. If you come before 12:30, you can probably play in the 2nd round. You do not have play all three rounds - just be sure to tell the Tournament Director your plans.

If your first game runs long, you do not have much time for lunch. We recommend that you bring food to the Go Center, rather than going out to get lunch.

The tournament is free, but you need to pay for your visit to the Go Center, or be a voting member of the Go Center, or be under the age of 18, or be a "new member" which gives you ten free visits. Also, current AGA membership is required. You can join or renew online at www.usgo.org/join-aga-today (You can join the AGA or renew in person at the Go Center as well, but please come early to do that).

These games will be played on 9x9 or smaller boards, and will not be rated by the AGA.

HANDICAP - The standard handicap tournament. Prizes from Yellow Mountain.
Dan level players may choose to play in this section or the Open section, but not both.

OPEN - For dan level players only. No handicaps! Cash prizes!
All entry fees will become prize money for first and second place in this section. The more players we have, the more prize money is available... so invite your friends!

2019 NM State Go Championship

Even games played in the Open Section will determine the NM State Champion from qualified players. Handicap games played in the Handicap Section will determine winners in our 2019 Fall Go Tournament.

Players can play in either section. Qualified Open Section players are current AGA full members with at least 6 months residency in New Mexico in the past 12 months.

2019 California State Go Championship

This will be the Second Annual California State Go Championship.

The event will again be hosted by the San Diego Go Club at the
San Diego Chess Club in Balboa Park. It will be a 5-round AGA-rated
tournament over Thanksgiving Saturday and Sunday. The time control
will be 45-minutes with 5 periods of 30-seconds Byo-yomi.

The 2018 tournament was won by Calvin Sun, AGA 1P with eight
6-dan-and-above players in the Open, thirty-six players in the
Handicap Section and thirty-two youth players in the 13x13 championship.

The player with the best record in the Open section, who is a California resident, will become the new California State Champion.
But one does not have to be a California resident to play in any section.
There will be several handicap sections as well as a youth 13x13 championship
for 20+-Kyu players and beginners.

There will be a minimum of $1,000.00 in prize money, which will be distributed amongst the various sections.
There is a $20. entrance fee.

Registration is now open.
To play in round 1, players must register by 11:59 p.m. Thursday (Thanksgiving), November 28, 2019.

Professional Go players are not allowed to win the title of 2019 California Go Champion;
the title can only be won by an amateur California resident. Professionals and non-residents
are allowed to play, but cannot win prizes.
