Yuan Zhou gives this background for this incredible game between Na Hyun 8p and Lee Sedol 9p: “I’d like to go back in time a bit for this commentary. This game was the final of the Asian TV Cup in 2017. Lee Sedol 9p is Black and Na Hyun 8P is White. Both are Korean pros. Lee Sedol has had his famous match with AlphaGo (in which he won the only game ever won against the AI program by a human – see my book ‘AlphaGo vs. Lee Sedol: The Game that Changed the World of Go’) and is still considered one of the strongest players in the world at this time. Na Hyun is a younger pro who was promoted to 9p soon after winning this game. The Asian TV Cup includes the winners and runner-ups of the TV cups in China, Korea, and Japan, along with the winner of this event the previous year. It is a fast play event: 30 seconds per move with the option of taking a full minute ten times. Lee Sedol was the winner of the Korean TV Cup, with Na Hyun being the runner-up. Lee had won the international TV Cup three previous times.”
