This is the 2025 (a bit late) Over-65-year-old California State Go Championship, hosted by the San Diego Go Club. "Over-65" is defined by the TD to mean that the player has at least turned 65 before 1/1/2026. Those who are "almost 65" can register and play but cannot win the title. Last year there were many tales of the "old days" of the AGA, e.g. when Congress pairings were done on 3-by-5 cards! Note: The three story elevator is installed in the house and there is a lift to bring down players from the street-level to the top floor. No one needs to walk down the 43-stairs to the Japanese backyard garden. The house is now ADA compliant! There are NO entry fees, no trophies, no cash awards, just the title of “2025 Over-65 California State Go Champion.” (Any senior can register to play, but only residents of California can win the title). This is a 3-round, AGA rated, Handicap tournament. It is open to players of all abilities including beginners. Current AGA membership is required. Lunch (Ted‘s famous Chicago Chocolate Chili, rice, and salad) and drinks will be served to all attending. The #1 board will be played in the Go Room on a 10-inch-thick board made out of a piece of 800-year old Kaya. All boards will use Slate and Shell stones. The 2024 O-65 had ten players competing. Stay for the sunset over the Pacific Ocean at 4:52 p.m. There may be a “Green Flash.”
